In These Years, Series WithEditorial glance some of Mexico Ocean, Julio Scherer does just that: open a crack and peeks to show with his sober and delightful art out into the world of political power, the world of the President of the Republic, the world's most powerful politician Mexico has had in recent years, the world of Carlos Salinas de Gortari.
Other presidents receive some mention, as the case of Miguel de la Madrid Hurtado, who outlined their management in a terse sentence: mediocre job of Miguel De la Madrid (p.15). But even in that reference is being talked about underground power and cultivated as an assistant Salinas De La Madrid. And yes, the mediocrity of this was encouraged by him, as it isuse the siren song and draw all, if possible, to keep them under control. Scherer claimed, and we believe, far from the magic of the power given the proximity of the powerful.
The book ends as it ends the presidency of Salinas, with the outbreak of the Zapatista National Liberation Army, with the assassination of Ruiz Masieu, with the assassination of Luis Donaldo Colosio. A massive look at the world of political power in Mexico.
